Eligibility Criteria

To be eligible for WB SET, candidates must meet the following requirements:

1. Educational Qualifications:

• General/EWS Candidates: At least 55% marks in a Master’s Degree or equivalent from a recognized institution.
• OBC (Non-creamy layer)/SC/ST/PWD/Transgender Candidates: At least 50% marks in the Master’s Degree.
• Ph.D. Degree Holders: Candidates whose Master’s level exam was completed by September 19, 1991, are eligible for a 5% marks relaxation.

2. Ongoing Degrees:

• Candidates pursuing their Master’s degree or awaiting results may apply, but they must complete their degree with the required percentage within two years from the SET result date.

3. Third Gender:

• Transgender candidates are eligible for the same concessions as SC/ST/PWD categories and will have the lowest cut-off among these categories.

4. Exemptions:

• Candidates who passed the UGC/CSIR JRF Examination before 1989 or any SET accredited by UGC before June 1, 2002, are exempted from the test.

How To Apply?

1. Visit the WBCSC Website: Access the application form exclusively on the official WBCSC website.

2. Prepare Required Documents

• Photograph: Upload a passport-sized photo in JPG format, ranging from 4 KB to 40 KB. The dimensions should be 3.5 cm (width) x 4.5 cm (height).
• Signature: Upload your signature in JPG format, ranging from 4 KB to 30 KB. The dimensions should be 3.5 cm (width) x 1.5 cm (height).

3. Complete the Application Form

• Fill in all necessary details as prompted on the application form.

4. Payment of Examination Fee

• Opt for payment through credit card, debit card, or internet banking.

5. Print and Prepare for the Exam

• Print your online admit card.
• Bring a photo ID and the admit card on the exam day.

Examination Details

The WB SET comprises two papers:

• Paper I: 50 objective questions, each worth 2 marks, assessing general awareness, reasoning, and research aptitude.
• Paper II: 100 objective questions, each worth 2 marks, focusing on the subject chosen by the candidate.

Both papers will be held on December 15, 2024, in two sessions:

• Session I: Paper I from 10:30 AM to 11:30 AM
• Session II: Paper II from 12:00 PM to 2:00 PM
