Total Number of Posts and Category-wise Break-up

The High Court has announced a total of twelve (12) vacancies for District Judges (Entry Level). The distribution of these posts is as follows:

• Open Merit (OM): 09 posts
• Backward Area (BA): 01 post
• Scheduled Caste (SC): 01 post
• Scheduled Tribe-I (ST-I): 01 post

Note: This includes seven posts under OM and one post under BA which are being re-advertised for the second time.

Eligibility Criteria

Candidates must meet the following eligibility criteria to apply for these positions:

Educational Qualification

• A Degree in Law from a recognized University in India, approved by the Bar Council of India.

Professional Experience

• Must be a practicing Advocate in Courts of Civil and Criminal jurisdiction with at least seven years of actual practice as of the last date of application submission.
• An experience certificate from the concerned Principal District and Sessions Judge/Registrar Judicial of the High Court must be provided in the format annexed as Annexure-A to the notification.

Examination and Selection Process

Written Examination

• The written examination will consist of two papers, each of two hours duration, carrying 80 marks each. The syllabus is detailed in Annexure B of the notification.

Viva-Voce Examination

• Candidates who score 60% or more in the written examination will be called for the viva-voce test in a 3:1 ratio (three candidates per vacancy).
• Scheduled Caste/Scheduled Tribe candidates require 50% marks in the written examination to qualify for the viva voce.
• A minimum of 60% marks in the viva voce is required for general candidates and 50% for SC/ST candidates.

Final Selection

• Selection will be based on the cumulative grade obtained in both the written examination and the viva voce.

Application Process

• Applications must be submitted online via the High Court of J&K and Ladakh’s recruitment portal.
• No offline applications will be accepted.
• Candidates should keep a printout of the application form and fee payment receipt for future reference.
